How long have you been running programs?
Academic Treks College is the university disvion of Broadreach, a company that has been running summer academic and adventure programs for teenagers for over 15 years. Carlton Goldthwaite, Founder and Executive Director, designed Broadreach and its philosophy in 1993: programs limited in size, dedicated to skill building, international discovery and personal growth. Since then, thousands of young adults have traveled the world with us on extraordinary hands-on expeditions. Broadreach and Academic Treks is now a leader in summer academic and adventure programs for teenagers with an ever expanding offering of exciting trips.

Will my university accept Academic Treks College course credit?
All Academic Treks College courses are designed to meet college level accreditation standards in which students earn college credits through Lesley University. It is ultimately up to your university to decide whether they will accept another institution's credits, although most schools do accept transfer credits. If you are uncertain about your school's policies regarding credit transfer, we encourage you to discuss this issue with your study abroad office or advisor before enrolling.

Am I going to be in a lot of lectures?
At Academic Treks College we recognize that strong, meaningful academics are the cornerstone of successful study abroad programs. You will learn a great deal on any Academic Treks College program, but most of the learning is hands-on. Traditional classroom sessions are supplemented with hands on field research, labratory and service projects. Students typically spend between 6-8 hours a day for five or six days a week on coursework in their topic of study. During off times, additional field trips and cultural workshops are led by Academic Treks College professors or in-country staff members.
Do I need to have any wilderness or travel experience?
No. Many of our students have never been on a wilderness course or traveled internationally. You do not need to have any experience camping, trekking, paddling or traveling. All we ask is that you come with an open mind, a desire to try new things and ready to have fun. Our staff will teach you all the skills you need one-step-at-a-time. Call for details on specific programs.
How do I make my travel arrangements?
Beeline Travel coordinates the travel plans for all of our students. They are experienced in travel to our program destinations, handle our special group fares and help us plan smooth and coordinated travel days. Contact a Beeline Travel specialist at 800-845-1054 or travel@gobroadreach.com.
Is airfare included in the tuition fee?
No. Because our students come from across the United States and around the world, airfare is not included.

Each course is limited in size to between 10-16 students. This small group allows for program flexibility, maximizes hands on learning and provides opportunities for cultural interaction. Academic Treks College professors and instructors acompany the group throughout the course providing continuity, support, and academic rigor to each program. Our small groups mean that every student will get the expereince and attention they need and deserve.
