Highlights
  • Learn Spanish through interactive instruction and cultural immersion in the Ecuadorian Countryside as well as in the colonial city of Cuenca
  • Backpack the Inca Trail through the Andes Mountains

  • Visit Cotopaxi National Park, horseback ride through the park and climb up to the refuge on the side of the volcano.
Location and accommodations
  • Andes Mountain – Tent camping while hiking the Inca Trail of Ecuador
  • Paute – Language classes and activities while staying at a Hacienda in the countryside
  • Cuenca – Home stay families
  • Amazon – Service work while staying in a small hostel
Dates and Tuition
  • Summer 2010: June 4th to July 3rd (30 day)
  • $5580 (Includes tuition, room, board, meals, program activities, student support throughout the program. Tuition does not include international airfare, travel insurance and personal expenses)
Academics
  • Students are registered in academic course accredited through Lesley University
  • 3 Credits in Spanish Language
  • Oral History project including ethnographic research as well as using practical language skills
Included Activities and Excursions
  • 5 day trek through the Andes Mountain starting in the mountain village of Achupallas and finishing at Ingapirca Incan Ruins
  • Visit an Ecuadorian agricultural school and flower farm.
  • Learn about traditional Ecuadorian ceramic making.
  • Visit a famous Panama hat maker in his tiny studio and contrast that with a visit to a large scale production facility of Panama hats.
  • Explore the colonial city of Cuenca.
  • Community service
Prerequisites
  • Minimum 18 years old
  • High school Graduate
  • One year High School or College Spanish
  • Minimum GPA: 2.50
