Students will begin each course with an orientation to the host country and culture as well as an introduction to other members of the group. This orientation typically lasts a couple of days and often includes an adventure activity unique to that particular location, such as white-water rafting, hiking or sea-kayaking. This advetnure provides a great backdrop for an introduction to the country and an opportunity for students to get to know one another. After the intial program orientation, students immerse themselves in the academic topic. Students will explore unique environments and cultures while studying marine sciences or a foreign language and/or culture. Academic Treks College students are fully immersed in an educational experience in a real world setting, gaining a global perspective and hands-on understanding of the topics studied.

With small groups, field-based studies, and integrated learning, students gain unique hands on experiences in their host culture, whether it is discussing the pros and cons of shark conservations with a Fijian village chief or practicing Spanish skills while volunteering at a local orphanage. The possibilities are endless!
